User Interface Design

In addition to producing user manuals, we're often asked to consult in the design of software and firmware built into consumer electronics. This integrated approach has several benefits. It makes products more intuitive and easy to use, it builds brand loyalty, and it can drastically reduce the significant expense of customer service.

Example: For a Fortune 40 company, we produced user manuals for nearly all consumer electronics. While reviewing the firmware of one product, we discovered that the manual would have to say the following: "Press OFF to turn this feature on. Press ON to turn this feature off."

We were subsequently asked to review and recommend changes to the user interface architecture of this and many other higher-technology consumer electronics, to make them easier to understand and use.
